FIDDLE
GORD STOBBE from Chezzetcook, NS
Former host of "Up Home Tonight". Gord plays many styles and is an inspiring teacher. He has been at many fiddle workshops and fiddle camps all over Canada. He is the author of "Of Course You Can Play the Fiddle" series and wrote a number of "Canadian Old-Time Fiddle Hits Volumes."
KEITH WILSON
Keith is a well-known BC Fiddle instructor and accomplished judge at fiddle contests. He has represented BC as a competitor and judge at the Canadian Grand Masters in Nepean Ontario, and has judged at the National US Fiddle Competition in Weiser, Idaho. Keith is also a Director of the BC Old Time Fiddlers Association.
ROXANNA SABIR
Roxanna is known for her clean, precise and danceable fiddle style. She has a passion for traditional influences such as Celtic, Acadian, Bluegrass and old time fiddling. She brings a great deal of exposure with her to the Fiddle Camp. She has opened for the Rankin Family and Michelle Wright and performed for such dignitaries as Jean Cretien.
KARRNNEL SAWITSKY
is from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He has taught at many fiddle camps throughout Saskatchewan. Karrnnel has competed in many competitions and has received 10 invitations to the Canadian Grand Masters. His is experienced in many styles of fiddle music including Ukrainian, Irish, Bluegrass, and Old Time just to name a few.
SHAMMA SABIR
Shamma was the first and youngest female BC nominee ever to be invited to the Canadian Grand Masters Championships and placed in Canada’s top eleven in Ottawa. In 1996, she was invited to play with Ashley McIsaac and Rita McNeil for the Canada Day Celebrations. Shamma is a prolific writer and composer with writing credits for “Waltz for Eva”, “Holding On”, “In Loving Memory”, which is the title track from the Sabir Sisters’ debut CD.
KALISSA HERNANDEZ
At 19 years old, Victoria BC’s Kalissa Hernandez has received much recognition for her hard work both performing and competing. When she was 12 years old, she made fiddle history by being the youngest person ever to win the tile of BC Provincial Fiddle Champion where all her competitors were adults. Kalissa has been invited four times to represent BC at the Canadian Grand Masters. She has performed at various Folk Festivals across Canada, both fiddling and stepdancing. She plays a variety of fiddle styles including Irish, Old Time Canadian, Cajun, Texas Swing, Celtic and Metis.
JJ GUY
This award winning fiddler, has a strong grassroots following which has made one of the most popular fiddlers in western Canada. Know threw out the fiddle world for his playing abilities, He has played with numerous groups and bands while passing on his skills to others at the many fiddle camps he teaches at from B.C. threw to Manitoba. His fun upbeat stage show, makes him a strong and often repeat performer at many festivals. Along with doing studio work and 3 compilation CD's, JJ has released 2 albums of his own. His latest disc, entitled "Cadillac" has been receiving air play from B.C. to as far east as Nova Scotia!
GUITAR
Ray Bell
Ray Bell lives in Regina where he is a guitar instructor, performer, producer and composer.He has toured extensively including four tours of the U.K. performing at folk clubs, bluegrass and folk festivals and on B.B.C. radio. He is a studio musician and has performed on many C.D.'s and also is in demand as a guitar instructor at music camps throughout western Canada. Along with Shamma Sabir he is one of the founding members of 'Music In The House' music school in Regina.
PIANO
Alice Wilson
Alice is a well-respected back-up pianist for many fiddlers. She has instructed at several Fiddle Camps in BC and currently is giving private back-up instruction to upcoming musicians. Alice resides in Abbotsford and is a member of Branch #4 Old Time Fiddlers.
